Loomis' Mountain Mint
Pycnanthemum loomisii
This common fall wildflower is found in dry upland situations. The compact flower clusters of small
white florets with purple spots are subtended by leaves that are covered with dense white hairs
making them appear as if dusted with white powder. The overall effect is of a plant that resembles a
small white poinsettia.
Mountain mints typically have a very strong mint odor when crushed and this species is no
exception.
