Common Milkweed
Asclepias syriaca
As the name implies, this milkweed can be found quite commonly in many areas of Tennessee, most
notably in the glades and barrens of the Central Basin. The plants can reach 5 feet and the flower
clusters may have diameters of 4 inches. The sweetly fragrant flowers are a rosy lavender color and
provide nectar for many insects such as butterflies, bees, and beetles. Flowering takes place in early
summer.
