White Trout Lily
Erythronium albidum
Our only white species of trout lily can be found in low,
damp woodlands in Middle Tennessee and the
southwestern corner of West Tennessee. The flowers can
approach 2 inches in diameter and bloom in mid to late
March. As with the 3 species of yellow-flowered trout lilies,
the leaves are mottled with brown and lighter green.
Another white species, the prairie trout lily (Erythronium
mesochoreum), is found in Missouri and Arkansas but has
not been found in Tennessee as of yet. It differs from white
trout lily by having solid green leaves and grows in dry,
open woods.
